Shape the UX foundation for an AI predictive maintenance tool.

Overview
Tier 1 Energy Solutions, in collaboration with Zetane and supported by Scale AI, set out to develop a predictive maintenance solution using machine learning and 3D simulation to detect cable degradation earlier and more accurately. I helped shape the product from the ground up, ensuring that AI generated insights, anomaly detection and 3D visualizations were clear, trustworthy and actionable for technicians and engineering teams.

Challenge Context
Wireline inspection is a high stakes workflow where technicians rely on precision and experience. Introducing AI meant supporting their judgement without disrupting established practices. The system needed to surface predictions clearly, visualize cable conditions responsibly and adapt to real operational constraints such as field environments, safety requirements and time pressure. The challenge was to translate complex model outputs into guidance that felt intuitive and trustworthy.
Design Approach
I met with technicians, engineers and stakeholders to map the end to end user journey and understand how inspections are performed today. From there, I designed concepts for anomaly review, prediction interpretation and cable condition visualization that emphasized clarity and trust. Working closely with data scientists, I refined how confidence levels and model outputs should appear so the AI could support, rather than complicate, decision making in the field.
Deliverables
The work included user interviews, UX mapping, personas and user journeys that anchored the product in real inspection workflows. I delivered workflow maps and early UX concepts for how predictive insights should surface in the interface, along with wireframes for anomaly visualization, confidence levels and timeline comparison.
Outcomes
The UX foundation helped Tier 1 and Zetane clarify how AI assisted inspection could fit into real workflows. Working with technicians and engineers in a field that was new to me showed how thoughtful UX can bring structure and clarity to complex technical environments.
Key Learnings
This project strengthened my ability to design AI driven tools in complex operational environments, where clarity and trust are essential. It reinforced how predictive insights must be presented in ways that support expert judgement and integrate naturally into established workflows.
